AN EXCELLENT TIME TO SHOP AROUND FOR A NEW RETAIL ENERGY
PROVIDER
AUSTIN – More than half a
million Texas electric customers have chosen a new Retail
Electric Provider since retail electric competition
began in January 2002, according to the Public Utility
Commission of Texas (PUC).
A comparison of offers from various Retail
Electric Providers indicates residential customers can
save up to $160 per year by switching providers. Saving
money is not the only reason to change electric providers—for
example, many Texans have switched for environmental
concerns or for better customer service.
“Try it,” said Julie of Galena
Park, Texas, who experienced no hassle when she selected
a new electric provider to save money. “The choice
is the customer’s. Research a little or a lot,
but take control of your money!”
“Texans are showing a strong interest
in their power to choose,” said PUC Chairman Rebecca
Klein. “The hot summer months, when many Texans
use more electricity to run air conditioners, are an
excellent time for residents to shop around for the
best electricity offers.”
